Comprehensive Psychotherapy Services
I enjoy working with a varied client population. I work with children (ages 8+), adolescents, and adults-including seniors. I provide individual, family, and group therapy services. I believe that to ensure effective therapy, it is important to work as a team--a team that includes my client and me, and other members of my clients' care team. I welcome feedback from clients at any time in the therapy process. I find that feedback from the client is an important element to successful therapy, and is an essential element of the partnership I offer my clients because it ensures that we can make changes to the treatment plan to meet the clients' needs. I value both the therapeutic relationship and evidence-based practice interventions to assist clients in achieving desired treatment outcomes. We work together to alleviate distress, maintain gains, and prevent relapse. Through this approach--which has received positive feedback from clients--clients receive the care they need when they need it, with consideration given demands on their time and financial circumstances.
I look forward to hearing from you to learn more about how I can assist you. Please call me at (206) 496-2426 to schedule your free phone consultation or to schedule an appointment. You also welcome to get in touch with me using the contact form available through my website.
Evidence-Based Practice Models I Use
"Evidence based practice" means that the therapeutic model or the interventions from a particular model a practitioner uses are shown by the research to be effective and valid ways to assist clients in reducing and alleviating intrusive and distressing symptoms in order to improve mood, behavior, and overall functioning. My training and expertise lies in the application of Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Mindfulness-based interventions are a component of all these treatment models. I believe in the importance of monitoring and tracking symptoms over time. To do this I work with patients to create a treatment plan that includes measurable goals that we can monitor and measure its effectiveness and make changes as appropriate.
Conditions and Issues A Client May Be Seeking To Address
What to Expect
Free 15-20 Minute Phone Consultation--I encourage clients to take advantage of this service. This is an opportunity for us to talk for 15-20 minutes to discuss your therapy needs and questions you may have about me as provider and the services I offer. We can also use this time to schedule your intake and assessment appointment, clarify matters associated with costs of services and insurance coverage, and to address any questions about practice policies.
Intake & Assessment Appointment (45-60 minutes)--This is largely an information gathering appointment. In order to offer appropriate treatment recommendations I need to have a thorough history about your current symptoms and issues of concern. I may ask for your consent to request information from other members of your care team to assist me in making an accurate diagnosis and forming of an appropriate treatment plan. I will offer a diagnosis, which asssists me as the practitioner as well as other members of your care team, can be informative to you as my client as is required by all insurers. At the conclusion of the intake & assessment appointment my goal is to have a thorough understanding of your needs, discuss the initial diagnosis with you, and to have an understanding of your treatment goals so that we may begin to formulate a treatment plan.
Individual Psychotherapy Appointments (45-60 minutes)--After the initial intake and assessment appointment we will meet for a series of individual sessions generally lasting 45-60 minutes. Individual sessions will balance support and validation with learning new skills to assist you in making the changes you wish to make. based on your identified treatment goals. Frequency of sessions is determined on a case-by-case basis, as is the total number of sessions a client needs.
Family Therapy and Parent Guidance/Consultation Sessions (45-60 minutes)--Following the initial intake and assessment appointment, family or parent sessions are similar to individual psychotherapy appointments but focus more on the family relationships and dynamics that may need to shift or change to help an individual client. We will focus on ensuring that the family, parents, or guardians receive validation and support while learning appropriate skills and tools to help the primary client. If you are seeking services for a child or adolescent, family therapy/parent guidance work is frequently recommended to compliment individual services. I can also provide support and guidance for families or parents facing challenges independent of a specific diagnosis for a child or adolescent. As with an individual psychotherapy appointment , these sessions are typically 45-60 minutes. Frequency and duration of sessions are determined on a case-by-case basis.
Termination/Closing Session (45-60 minutes): Though though choice to continue with treatment is always yours, I recommend that clients complete the planned course of sessions and discuss the decisions to end their treatment with me. These closing sessions are also a time in which to discuss a plan to prevent relapse, how to initiate services again should relapse occur, and whether you would benefit from booster sessions.
Care Coordination Services---I offer complementary routine care coordination services with other members of your care team with your consent. This includes brief phone calls and sending basic updates to members of your care team to assist them in supporting your care. More involved care coordination may incur an additional charge.
Risk Assessment, Crisis Intervention, & Crisis Management Services---I value your safety and the safety of the community. It is standard practice for me to to assess for presence of self-harm or suicidal thoughts and the presence of other symptoms that indicate you are experiencing a mental health crisis. If such safety concerns are present I will work with you and other members of your care team as appropriate to assist you in remaining safe for yourself and the community.
